at the hair salon in Iowa City.
(I forget her name),
but she gave great
manicure, rubbed my arms,
I almost saw god,
and she painted my nails
OPI Tahitian Sunset,
kind of orangy pink and shaped
just so, you know?
She rubbed my toes
and painted them, too.
It was a beautiful relationship.
I loved that woman until
she talked me into layers.
It took three damn years,
but my hair is long again,
although my nails
are momentarily
undone.
This is a fun, amusing poem. I like how "Nailed" creates resonance among the art and design of a fingernail, a poem and a haircut. My favorite line (besides the color of the nail polish) is the one suggesting the beauty and power of a caring human touch--skin against skin--even when it's between a manicurist and her client.
You and tara sicken me. In a good way :)
You both have this talent to portray even the most nonsensical topic into great poetry.
I'll just sigh and dibble. Great job as usual hon :-)

I loved this, if only because I've sat next to so many girls who've gotten bad advice from their manicurist.
Well, not only because... Awesome poem.
...a great read! Just a ball going through this....made me smile and smile.
i went for a manicure a couple weeks ago..
i asked the gal if i got a 50% discount because she was only doing 1 hand..she laughed with me and said it was on the house. lol
sweet poem hun!
wonderful.
Well except for the hair part.
I love the color "OPI Tahitian Sunset"
makes ya wanna kiss your toes
; )
...done image from the simplicities of life. even i have the same complaint when it comes to not having my hair done right.
this is my favorite part:
OPI Tahitian Sunset,
kind of orangy pink and shaped
just so, you know?
lol
This is so fun. But in the South, we'd say,
"I loved that woman until
she talked me into layers,
bless her scissor-happy heart."
Love this part:
"I almost saw god,
and she painted my nails
OPI Tahitian Sunset,"
This poem reminds me of my joys and pains with my hair dresser--bless her gossiping, racist heart. I hate her views and I've had an argument with her, yet I crawl back to her because she has a file on me, which contains all my hair information: color combinations, perm formula, styles, hair problems, etc. She keeps all this info in a little box. I'm going to nab that card the next time I'm getting fried and dyed.
