I am in Reno
waiting for a plane
fresh from the desert
void of clouds and rain,
Finished with a project
a month-long task
at the bar a shot of whiskey
one drink to last,

Until I get to Denver
you’ll be waiting there
in your turd-brown pickup
ribbon in your hair,
Wearing faded Levi’s
that halter top I like
I hope we remember
like riding a bike,

Remember the balance
muscle memory please
at your condo door
fumbling with the keys,
Eager for redemption
for love, or something new
or maybe just a plain
old vanilla screw,

Then you’ll take the bottle
pour us each a drink
a long chain of lovers
am I the missing link?
Perhaps to the venue
where we met long ago
in your faded Levi’s
and that halter top I know,

We’ll float through the weekend
drink and copulate
call it an obsession
or call it a date,
When Monday morning comes
go separate directions
