Your arms around me
Left my mind ringing;
One phrase on repeat.
"Thank you, thank you."
I've never before felt
Such relief. A safety of
An inconceivable kind.
Against your chest, wrapped
Tightly, and all my heart could
Beat was 1-2, 1-2.
Thank you. Thank you.
Already I've been hooked.
Lost to the tragedy of whatever
I've been and it's not hard
For you to see. I can taste it
At the edge of the floor we keep
Dancing around.
We glance to the peripheral
View of each other.
I'll stay soft and doe-eyed,
While you stay confident and
Controlled. I'll stay waiting
At my empty plate
While you feast at your table,
Miles away and you'll smirk at
The deluge of Freudian slips
That you know I can't control.
She'll watch, unreadable to me,
Too beautiful to touch.
Too precious to be hurt.
Too valuable to compute and
I'll leap dizzying through the
Hoops of my confusion between
All these things.
She'll see,
You'll grin,
I'll wait.
You win.
