NOT A SONNET
I would write you a sonnet, but I don’t know how,
all that strict meter boggles my brain and bogs me down
yet I keep returning to your picture, to swim in your grin
hair flopped over one eye, to give you a perfect air of mystery.
You worry you may not fit in, but my heart has all the room
that you might ever desire. Though that desire is mine,
a flame burning bright. Though I lack sleep at night.
Simply more time to dream of you until the sun peeks through.
We may be too far apart to ever meet, though that would be neat,
after all, I have always loved slightly crazy ladies the best
and at times, you do seem crazier than the rest
that simply draws me closer, a moth to your flame
Perhaps one day, this will be more than a dream
as crazy as that may seem.
I warned you I don’t know how to write a sonnet
so I wrote you a simple love poem,
like Paul before he was Sir,
courting his Linda with Silly Love Songs for her.
