I best be on my way to
nowhere in particular.

Watch my shadow react
to the light on my back,
sew it to my heels
and resume my step.

I've got my pride to protect.
Responsibilities to neglect.
There are lessons to be learned
and from what I've heard,
some unresolved rage to express.

I get it from my Dad

and I'll be damned if I can't
learn to soften with age.

I swear I can change.

Memories make a cage,
knowing one day it will break,
shattering into atoms that will turn
back into breath
eventually
once again
one day.

We're only as good as the
mistakes we've made.
No one really cares
what you say
offstage.
