Dark dank downstairs bar
well past midnight
drinking shots of whiskey
holding on tights,
To a distant memory
a year, or ten, ago
what we did back then
where we did not go,

In a different state
and a different state of mind
we have a sorted history
and both think that is fine,
Meet a couple times a year
pretty much the same
dinner, drinks and intercourse
down memory lane,

Ejected from the bar
two a.m., when they close
a room at the Super-8
low-life, I suppose,
Quickly strip you naked
you take me there too
seen you this way many times
and still don’t have a clue,

Why we’re not a couple
never even tried
perhaps the shroud of history
behind where we hide,
And these brief interactions
are something we require
at least that’s what we tell ourselves
ready, aim, fire,

At breakfast the next morning
vague plans for the day
check-out at eleven
what do you say?
The morning after that
one more data point
one more memory of you
perhaps that is the point,
