Went hiking somewhere that was unfamiliar and got super paranoid...these are my raw thoughts while I tried to find my way out....took me a whole hour to get back to the car...

Constantly looking behind my shoulder to see if anyone maybe following
Listening for turkeys and footsteps that aren't mine
Always eyeing my surroundings for deer, birds and humans
Relieved that my wifi still works
As I send screenshots of where I'm at to a group chat on Messenger
Along with pictures of man-made objects or unique trees
Just in case they ever need to find me...

Trying to enjoy the hike and the views
Every 5 minutes I look on my maps
Because the trail map that was provided really sucks ass
Curious to follow the thin trails of the deer
Gut telling me to stick to the main path instead
Another screenshot sent, another picture taken
But not one of flowers, just obvious parts of the trail

The sound of an airplane gives me relief
Knowing that civilization is still close by
Walking faster as I do my best to not step on any twigs
Taking note of the river on the map as it leads me back
Sighing in relief when I see the shiny metal cars through the trees
Slowing down as I walk towards the end of the trail
Booking it as soon as I'm in the car to head home and process

Loved every minute, and I will know that by going there again I'll be more familiar with the trees and the noise
