Downtown Denver
bright sunny day
parking garage
trying to pay,
Attendant says
machine is broken
will only accept
her special token,

A blue work shirt
her hair tied back
shows me the token
that I lack,
Says I’ll trade you
for a cup of Joe
I know a place
we can go,

I say why not
have time to spare
gets in my car
points us there,
Colfax Avenue
few miles west
some little diner
not the best,

We trade names
quick life stories
order coffee
no worries,
How often does she
do thinks like this
answers with
an air-blown kiss,

Inquiries of plans
for the day
perhaps, she says
go away,
Says she has
no place to be
perhaps spend
some time with me,

We drive west
up to the hills
discuss previous
road-trip thrills,
Trade stores
trade lies
try hard not
to surmise,

Other’s thoughts
where we are going
which way
the wind is blowing,
Two people
a rental car
stop for drinks
some road-side bar,

By then decide
to spend the night
does not see wrong
does not seem right,
Just seems like
a thing to do
thought neither of us
have a clue,

The sex is good
somewhat bazar
first in the back
of the rental car,
Then in the motel
room I get
not boiling over
but things do fit,

Back to town
the next day
how she is
she said ok,
Kiss goodbye
at the parking garage
and drive away
