I found her unexpectedly
in a wasteland where vipers prey.

Since we've met I've thrown away
the railroad gin and the lobster shells
that kept me hidden from myself.

I have lost interest in the maelstroms,
the Valentines, the encyclopedias.
Reverie has found me.

Her working-class hands move
with the gentleness of soft lips,
caressing the curvatures of my being.
Her dark eyes call silently to me
enticing me to travel deeper into her.

We move through the Painted Desert
adorned with turquoise and silver
touching blue mesas and red canyons,
the Anasazi in her soul surrounding me.
We have been there before
dancing in the kivas at dawn.
