I knock twice on the hardwood floors
once on my dresser
and graze the ceiling fan with my fingers
for good measure.
I wink in the face
of danger. The anger swells
when it melts yet I'm still
cold to men who show interest but

I digress.

My distress signal sounds just like
church bells but I've found it helps
to just
sing.

I crack my voice alongside the radio.
The stop signs applaud when
I finally hit the right note.
