If not the primal, nor the second time,
head over heels into love tumbling;
will it still carry the rush of sublime
that thrill of initially stumbling?
Is, at fifty-six or age sixty-such,
the worn heart capable of fluttering?
Is emotional arthritis so much
that spry souls are left behind, muttering?
For she who can paint bright whimsical trees,
a couple entwined, gaily goats prancing;
or, putting ‘tween two, a grapefruit they squeeze,
he depicting as if they were dancing,
mere years will not rob pleasure from the day,
when old new-lovers like youngsters do play.
