Night, high above the town
It’s interfering lights for once obscured
The sky above me black as black can be,
Speared with tiny points of light,
Glowing, sparking, millions upon millions
Farther than the eye can see
Or the mind comprehend

On earth below it’s mild, balmy-warm
The air sweet with scent of prairie grass,
Honeysuckle and moist woods
The trees’ dark silhouettes against darker hills
It’s magic time
Where dancing, glowing, pulsing lights—
Fireflies in their hundreds,
Mirror and mock like impish faeries
The cold lights in cold space above
