Sun's coming up,
slowly,
in the distance.

I'm waking up,
getting dressed,
taking the bike outside.

Checking her over
to be sure she's ready,
I mount her.

Riding slowly
down the trail,
spirit singing.

Cool morning air
flowing all over,
bringing me to life.

See the bunny
running across the trail
just ahead?

Listen to the robins
singing
as they search for food.

Get a rhythm going,
maintain speed;
shifting when I have to.

Not that often
'cause the trail
is nice and flat.

Sometimes
another cyclist passes,
and we exchange greetings.

Early morning music
playing in my earbuds
as we move together.

Do you hear The Bards
singing their Sacred Songs
as they have for years?

Scanning
front and rear
constantly. . . .

Reaching my goal,
time to turn around,
and head home.

For my first real ride
in over three years
it has gone well.

Peace pervades my soul,
a song is in my heart
as we pull into the driveway.

Dawn Patrol completed
for today-
there WILL be others!
