She and I
her and me
pulled from the highway
to pee,
Road trip to
Who-Knows-Where
Nevada dust
in our hair,

Top down
music loud
far far
from the crowd,
Hot sun
on our shoulders
the voodoo shapes
of granite boulders,

We took some time
to climb and play
nothing else
to do that day,
No one leaving
a light glowing
no one knew
where we were going,

The map said
hot spring here
not too far
not too near,
Narrow track
a couple miles
greeted with
a couple smiles,

Two travelers
soaking there
smoking dope
without a care,
They said welcome
watched us strip
climb in
and take a dip,

We traded stories
truth and lies
lots of room
no touching thighs,
Not a cloud
just one star
we smoked their dope
said where’s your car?

They said they hitched
yesterday
their ride rolled on
they stayed to play,
To the coast
or somewhere west
Electric Kool Aid
Acid Test,

I told them they’re
50-years late
they said time
is just a date,
Just a number
just a mark
geologic time
is just a fart,

In the cosmos
in the scheme
no one says
what they mean,
People on
life’s treadmill
thinking sex
and money will,

Fill the void
in their yearning
but each day
we are learning,
Life is nothing
but a blink
of the eye
what do we think?

As the sun set
they made love
on a rock
slightly above,
The stars came out
a rising moon
the End is Coming
they said, soon …
