Christened in fields of ancient Galilee
Eager bud of Spring this eternal mystery,
Suzanne

To rock cleft mot, harsh earth, and slope
Defiant there she clings with hope
Where white petals breezily rippling
Bring soft scented whispers
To her claim

Enticing secret placed this Lily of the Valley
Pertly pushed from under leafy hood
A name whose bearers oft forsake
Yet epic strengths so scantly understood

For never was true man who once ere tease
This lusty gift of sun warmth dew to land
Whence yielded plucked by his caressing hand
To thence deny the loving name,
Suzanne
