Most of these short verses, again, deal with love, but a few of them touch on loss. I suppose I am a romantic.
And all I hope for is that you enjoy them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keepsake (a souvenir, a memory)
I have kept the last rose from your bouquet,
She still stands proud, though her petals are grey,
And while faint, I still find that her fragrance
Brings nothing but delight….in remembrance.

Forecast (dire and human weather conditions)
Doubtful skies, reluctant conclusions,
Uncertainty in all its vaunted illusions.
Mists in the morning, can you hear the rain?
Grey foreboding and undying pain.

Aurora Mine (and she wakes)
Awakened not with a kiss, but a touch,
Wary soul, once asleep, to a morning
Unimagined, even in deepest dreams.
Alive now – to tender love abounding.

Genesis (the early light)
Lost, dark, hopeless, hapless,
An eternal night holds sway.
Then brilliance breaks through the ebony;
Your smile has begun a new day.

Barren Heat (gilded seductress)
Reclining seduction, voluptuous dunes,
A ‘come hither’ pose, a silent appeal,
Blinding gold with highlights of tinted flesh,
Incessant temptation, and so I kneel.

Encapsulated (close kept)
We are neither here nor are we quite there.
Half-lit, half-shadowed, hope filled with despair.
Perhaps uncertainty is the flavor
Of the sweet brew that tonight I savor.

Muse? (a dream perchance?)
Arms left empty as awakening comes,
Muted shadows of words left unspoken,
A smile bestowed but yet still imagined,
Blades of grass weeping and stillness… broken.

Purge (re-start)
It’s very clear that the start of each year
Is the time to begin anew.
“Throw old things out!” it has been said,
So I shall start… with you.

Epiphany (to begin again)
Hiding behind bars of cautious beliefs,
I reveled in the dark, safely unseen.
But the plea and promise of gentler spring
Opened wide all my doors… and you walked in.

Ebb (you go with the flow)
You are wrapped in safety, cloaked from danger,
An embrace eternal and full of peace,
The un-invited yet most honored guest…
She brings calm and ultimately…release.

Pragmatism (do you believe in fairy tales?)
There are things you cannot hold on to,
There are wishes that cannot be,
There are places you can only dream of,
There are hearts that must be free.

Remembrance (what we long to keep)
Time cannot erase nor will she return
All that I have lost and all that I have earned,
I can but only hope that she will let me keep
The memory of you that I have buried deep.

Bereft (once left)
And if I had the strength to leave,
You would not find me here,
And that is why, beside your door,
I pick at crumbs left on the floor.

Metamorphosis
Reflect upon what we've been through,
What it took for the "me" and the "you"
To conform then alter, transcend and, thus,
Achieve the balance that is simply... "us."

Amazing

I enjoyed reading all of them, for a variety of reasons, but the one common thread is they were well written.

"Purge" made me laugh

"Bereft" made me sad

"Encapsulated" made me think

"Aurora Mine" made me glad

An assortment of great variety, light and dark emotions, weak and strong moments, sweet and bitter experience. Loved the arrangement of sometimes very sharp contrasts, my favorite: Muse? - Purge - Epiphany

Thanks a lot for sharing.

Barren Heat and Metamophosis are the two I liked the best.
