The sea, the eternal sea
Rolled up the beach,
Chasing happy yelling feet,
Both young and old,
As the seafoam draws near.
The blue-est of blue skies,
The brilliant sun
So tough on blue eyes
And white sand
That would burn feet in a second,
Except for the cool ocean water.
The water, so cool and such a
beautiful color,
Forever rolling in to meet the sand,
And rolls away,
After giving the beach and bathers a little kiss and hug.
The salt smell,
That bit of acrid scent pervades all at the beach,
Only interspersed with the smell of boardwalk food,
French fries right out the fryer,
Pizza, by the slice, so cheesy,
And salt water taffy,
So falsely named, but you could smell it from a mile away.
Big plump soft pretzels,
Just waiting for a little mustard.
You could gain ten pounds
just by breathing.
But it all comes back to the sea,
Like a woman that you can't take your eyes from,
Rolling and splashing,
Always in motion,
Never still for a second
But kissing and caressing the beach
The waves in eternal dance with the sand,
Rolling on the beach,
The eternal sea.
