Another holiday
I am gift careful
after the ridiculousness
of the Valentine’s Day
heart shaped box incident
I go to the chocolate store
I get her
chocolate dipped strawberries
in a fancy Easter box
I get your kids
their favorites in
smaller fancy boxes
And then
I go to the grocery store
I pick up a plant for your mother
and a few of
your favorite chocolate bars
and I put them in a plain gift bag
Nothing fancy
Nothing romantic
Nothing screaming Easter gift
for my boyfriend
who I love
Just a fucking bag
of fucking candy bars
She can’t get mad at me for that
I give the children their gifts
I give her the fancy strawberries
I give you your bag
of shitty chocolate bars
from the grocery store
And she rolls her eyes
glares at me
and says what the fuck
he doesn’t deserve a gift
And she pushes
the box of strawberries away
and storms out of the kitchen
I look at you and shrug
I say I followed the rules
Nothing romantic
Nothing fancy
You smile and say
You got me all of my favorites
She got me
a dollar store box
of gummy fish
And I smile
Because I love you
so fucking much
and so much more
than she does
But
it is not a holiday
if I will not have
time alone with you
so we manage
to steal
a few moments
for hugging
and kissing
and holding
and loving
And they are
the best parts
of the day
And when I leave
to drop off your mom
on my way home
she says
I am too good
and you are lucky
to have me
I go home
smiling
and missing you
and wishing
I could’ve given you
a green Easter basket
with purple grass
and all your favorites from
the fancy chocolate store
and fed them to you
naked
in our bed
letting them
melt
in our mouths
on our bodies
You don’t understand
what I would give you
on holidays
and on all days
if you allowed yourself
to leave her
and be happy
with me
You didn’t give me
candy or
chocolate or
flowers
You gave me
your arms around me
your lips on me
your words of love
whispered to me
I pretend it’s enough
It’s not
By next Easter
I’m hoping for so much
more
I’m hoping
that you will be
only
and always
mine

I, too, anxiously anticipate your next few poems…

Oh Paul. Much has happened since then. I anxiously anticipate my next few poems posting. And I am writing and writing and writing. Because there is so much more already to the story. I am currently heartbroken while being so, so in love 💜

Easter. Valentines.

Mothers, children, and wives.

And the man you love. Passionately.

Chocolate is bed sounds delightfully erotic.

Make a plan…Easter season is ongoing for 50 days….until May 28.
