War's Vision

Exhausted, the troop succumbs,
To soft comfort of rock
Warm embrace of tree's bark;
Laying with paint and grime
Rolling and dripping off cheeks;
A moment of respite
In the landscape of terror, of
Hate, fear, and loathing,
Mankind's hallmark ~
War never ending.

Made me think of my father and the pictures he brought home from nam. Very true and very descriptive. I can actually recall pictures of him and friends laid out on the ground, against trees. Brought it home to me again even though he's gone. Thank you

The truth

in this short poem made me weep for those who are serving now in a war that seems to have no satisfactory end.

The Words..

convey the true justice

that you have served,

to bring this vision to

those of us,

tucked safely into bed at night.

I cannot say the nights I

have laid looking at my own stars,

and wondering.. how they are.

way over there.. somewhere.

very moving Mr. Lebroz...

an honor to read.

A (6)***** if they would allow it.

I found the poem to hold a pull to it, similar to that soldiers feel when called to defend their land. The ending reveals the painful reality of what we call war. I have seen this in a soldiers eyes ... the disillusionment of wartime fantasy ... leaving only the reality in ones face. you did just that with this strong work. TY

It brings to mind

"All Quiet on the Western Front" a book/movie that shows better than most the utter futility of war... from an individual soldiers point of view!

Good effort!

Armour

sandy toe cracks and strap rash

whiskered chins and false grins

the scent of sweat over powers the flower

when your heart rate matches the sounds

of machine guns and mortars only drowned out

by the locusts with blades over head

the tree bark shatters by your head

you know you must shoot back or you'll be dead.

all I can saw leon... touched

nice write (~_~) bows humble
