If love is sacrifice, you’re overflowing,
Because I’m your bloody lamb
And since I’m strapped down to your altar
I’m being a martyr as best I can
And you are my everything
Because I couldn’t possibly let you be anything else
Because you were so blatantly angelic
And because I was blinded by your touch
So without thought I dove inside you
It was all that I could do
To make you my religion
With no choice but to worship you
To comb your snow white wings
And marvel at your clear blue eyes
With a dress that dampened the sun
With your voice that muted the sea
But now you’re looking down
To the dirt below my feet
And I can’t see anything but winter in your eyes
You can’t be how you used to be
And I’m hoping that I’m wrong
Because you’re all I’ve got to lose
I’m down hanging from your chapel door
With your low voice as my noose
And you’re standing, unharmed, worried with your eyes
But not about what’s happening to me
And you’re not worrying about us
Certainly not about what we’re going to be
Because I’m looking into your eyes, and I’m seeing a different time
When being without me was unacceptable
When our hands couldn’t be torn apart
When your tongue always sang the sweetest melody
And your lips opened up my heart
But you looked at me and saw winter
And your wings turned dead and black
So now I’m at your mercy
In the home you’ve left behind
And the sun is glaring far too bright
To escape these flooding halls
And I wish your wings were here
Just to save me from this fate
But I understand what’s happening
And what you had to do
And I don’t want you to feel sorry
And I don’t want you to regret
Because our love for a time was a fantasy
A dream that happened to come true
And despite all this now, I enjoyed it
Because in that dream I had you
