In an impatient world where everyone wants it snappy,
What’s your thing, your it, your drug that makes you happy?
How do you fight and fix what gets you down?
Something to take, to do, something that’s sure to astound!

Maybe it’s shopping, to purchase and accumulate stuff,
The thrill of the hunt, the bargain, the diamond in the ruff.
Only a temporary fix that buying does evoke,
Tis makes the foolish one left void and eventually left broke.

Maybe it’s love and in the arms of another that you seek,
Another first kiss, physical connection, another unknown mystique.
Lovers a plenty, a continued quest for someone fresh,
With no real substance, empty souls, proceed the sharing of the flesh.

Maybe it’s religion that helps you heal your strife,
Forget now, but devote your time towards the wonderful afterlife.
Hypocrites a plenty applying their belief by force,
Who kill and judge who disagree, absent of remorse.

Maybe it’s the taste of such a delectable food,
That comforts thyself and enhances your best mood.
In the end, a glutton you may become,
With health that fails, a larger you, miles from where your from.

Maybe it’s the music, that soothes your inner core,
The beat that’s felt inside yourself and leaves you wanting more.
But does the sound your listening too, give you what you gave?
Or does it just drown out, the peace that you crave?

Maybe it’s the game and winning pumps you up,
Championships are the ultimate filler of your competitive cup.
Losing does spurn much sorrow and anger is let in,
And makes you hate the losing, more than you love the win.

Maybe it’s the pill, the drink that helps you cope,
One more time before you stop cause it provides you so much hope.
When you’re back as you, from your mind numbing state,
Incarceration, ruined families and death will seal your fate.

Maybe vanity is what makes your engine purr,
Plastic surgery, one more tweak, and perfection will occur.
But as you age and your looks are sure to worsen,
What is left inside yourself, what’s the character of the person?

Maybe it’s a hobby and you found the one that fits,
No matter the time that you take off, you’re the one it gets.
That time that’s used is so serine like heaven up above,
Or does it keep you occupied from the ones you love?

Maybe something in your past needs buried way down deep,
Your drug is the only thing that helps you get to sleep.
The pursuit of your utopia may not be you at all,
Unless you change the way you think, your headed for a fall.

So what’s your drug that gives you the life, you’re trying to attain?
You’ll never stop the drugs until you stop the pain.
Maybe love is the answer and should be your life’s encasement,
Moderation is your fix instead of total replacement.

As you move forward and the years so quickly fly,
Doing good unto others should give the desired high.
Think you now and put an end to the evil happiness moocher,
Never allow your past or drug, to control your wanted future.

Thoughtful and beautiful (much like you)

You show a depth of understanding of the world well beyond your age. It’s well structured and even more importantly it’s a beautiful window into your soul. Kisses, babe.

Poignant

Really moving and thought-provoking poem, Brittni. Excellent rhymes and an important, poignant message. It truly made me think, even contemplate my decisions and life goals. I especially liked these lyrics: "Maybe it’s the game and winning pumps you up,

Championships are the ultimate filler of your competitive cup.

Losing does spurn much sorrow and anger is let in,

And makes you hate the losing, more than you love the win."

And

"As you move forward and the years so quickly fly,

Doing good unto others should give the desired high.

Think you now and put an end to the evil happiness moocher,

Never allow your past or drug, to control your wanted future."

Keep up the great work. You are very talented.
