She let go of the knife.
"I'm gonna go now, Arthur," she said."
"Me too, I think." He sounded tired. "I think I should quit while I'm..."
He looked at the knife. Then back to her.
"...Happy," he said with a tired smile.
Tears formed in her eyes too. It defied logic, but she was heartbroken for him.
"Bye, Arthur," she said, as she turned for the stairs.
He watched her climb them. He listened to her footsteps above him, as she exited his home, closing the door behind her. Then the house was silent again.
