"Now that doesn't sound like you were taking it very easy," he scolded me.

I shrugged. "I know, but I really wasn't too busy. I think I'm still a bit worn down from everything."

"Well go home and rest," he said. "But call me if you need anything, Ellis."

"I'll need to call a cab." He put his hand over the phone when I reached for it.

When I looked at him in surprise, he looked away, his wings rustled a little. It was a fidget I'd noticed in other bird Carthera that was a lot like humans wringing their hands together.

"What?" I asked suspiciously.

"Well, Davis dropped off your car while you were sleeping off your migraine. So you don't need to call a cab."

I could feel my shoulders tightening and my mouth flattening in a thin line. "Did you let him in my room?" My heart was racing at the thought of Dav in a room with me while I was drugged and unconscious.

"Of course not!" Dr. Pannar looked up at me in indignation.

"I'm sorry. I guess I'm still just. . .upset with everything going on with him. Don't worry; I'll be back to normal soon."

Dr. Pannar's expression was nothing short of skeptical.

"I will!"

He shook his head and grabbed his jacket off the coat rack and grabbed his keys. He pulled my keys off their hook and tossed them to me.

"If you say so," he said.

The drive home didn't take long, but I was yawning when I walked in. I considered making something to eat, but I just wasn't that hungry. I'd eaten a bit of soup in the afternoon when Dr. Pannar threatened me bodily harm if I didn't, but he wasn't there now to force me to eat.

I dropped my keys on the counter. They'd been hanging on the hook in the break room at the office. I know Dav got them out of my stuff at his apartment and had to have picked up my car and dropped it off at the office for me. We'd ridden in his car to the bar the day before after we had lunch.

I didn't understand it. Not when he was still blocking our bond. Obviously he was trying to get on my good side.

Not happening.

Especially when I keyed in the code for my voicemail and there were ten messages all from him. I hadn't even turned my cell phone on. I deleted my entire inbox, not listening beyond his quiet, "Ellis, please listen."

Definitely not happening.

The next two days were long and tiring. I wasn't sleeping well, and I only ate when Dr. Pannar nagged at me to. The meeting Velaku arranged was getting closer and closer, and my stomach churned when I wasn't focused on my work if I thought about it. I was just finishing up some paperwork on Friday when my cell phone rang. I'd finally turned it back on, and there had been a huge volume of messages all from the same number. I'd erased them and then blocked it. I knew it had to be Dav.

I looked at my phone, ready to hit end, but the caller id popped up with Isiah's name. My heart started racing.

"Hello?"

"Hey little brother! How's it going?"

"You know you're only about two minutes older than me right?"

"Still older," he laughed.

I still felt like my heart was going to pound out of my chest, and it was really hard not to blurt out questions about the video I'd seen but I knew Velaku was right. Answers had to come in person. I just had to make sure that they weren't going to hurt him.

"Anyway, little brother, I was wondering if I could change our plans a little."

"What do you mean by that?" My hand was clenched on the edge of the desk.

"Well, I have someone I really want you to meet, and I'm able to get away a few days early. I thought we'd fly out tonight; the airline will switch our tickets if you can pick us up. If you don't have room for both of us, we can stay in a hotel."

I thought fast. This changed things; this changed a lot of things. "Who is it?"

Isiah laughed. "Oh no, that'd be telling. I want it to be a surprise. Don't worry though, you'll love them. I do."

"Them. Not her? Do you have a boyfriend?"

"Maybe." Isiah was quiet for a minute. "Well, sort of. I'll tell you about him when we get there."

I nibbled on my lip, considering the options. It wasn't that hard to make my decision. I took a deep breath.

"What time will your flight get in?"

~*Mmm*~

First off, I was very disappointed that you switched back to only having one POV. I would LOVE to see Dav's POV in this story, but then, I don't really like stories with only one POV. After all, there are always two sides to every story.

That said, I like this story. Hypnotic is captivating, erotic, and mysterious.

I really hope that Isiah isn't a bad guy. I hope, I hope, I hope.

Also... Is Isiah and Natham's brother going to be mates?

If Hypnotic follows the other Cathera stories, then I already know this will end happily, that Ellis will eventually forgive Dav.

Speaking of Ellis and Dav, I have a feeling that it is really Ellis keeping the bond closed.

Poor Dav, though. He sabotaged his growing relationship with Ellis because of his past, and now he's lost Ellis' trust. That's got to hurt. (I will state again that I'd love to have Dav's POV.)

Happy Writing,

~*Cyn*~

Fab!

Am loving your story! Controversially (I suspect), I feel really sorry for Dav more so than Ellis - he must have had such a bad life beforehand so he was waiting for Ellis to betray him, so it was so easy for him to think he had without asking questions first. I'm looking forward to seeing what is up with the bond being blocked and the headaches. I am hoping for a happy ending soon. Great job, can't wait to see what happens next xx

Wow!

Lots of GREAT comments! Thanks to everyone loving the story. I am posting the next chapter today, so 3-5 days for it to be approved and you'll have more. Let's see if I can hit a few questions/comments now!

Metajinx: I only give instant happiness on the rare occasion, lol!

Cliffgirl and Cannd: The memory thing will be addressed. :D

Chibicakes: That's an interesting idea. . .now you will have to wait and see if that's what happens! LOL, yes, I am that evil!

Anon: Well, in that room, Dr. Pannar has spent the most time with him. Dav should have been on his side, as his mate, but that obviously didn't happen. I think Velaku was at least entertaining doubts or expecting answers without freaking first. He's a good leader.

Cannd: I LOVE how you comment on my stories. There are so many things you get right, so many things you touch upon, and then some things I like seeing the way your mind went but they don't come into play in the story. Do you work with other writers? Because I have to say you'd be an awesome beta reader to plan plots with! You extrapolate so well.

Question

the one thing I am having trouble with now that I went back to reread some parts is that when the mate bond took, they both saw into each other's memories. Why didn't Dav realize that he didn't see anything in Ellis' mind about working with the enemies, etc. I mean, if Ellis saw all of his dark side and he couldn't hide it then how could a human have hidden this stuff from him? I think Dr. Panaar or some Carthera in the room should have pointed that out.

Wow ...torture!

I love this chapter and all you packed into it and can't wait for more. I love how the stories were all pulled together in this chapter letting us see the thread running through them all from a higher vantage point. I really feel badly for Ellis. To be attacked like that, I was wincing inside imagining how that would feel after opening your heart, mind, body and soul to someone and have them act like that. He is right to be so angry. Afterall, Dav didn't say 'Let me see the evidence--I don't believe this about him' or even if he felt that he didn't know his mate well enough, he still should have given him the benefit of the doubt. That said, I think Dav has had a rough life and I think he probably was so affected by this appearance of love in his life which he never experienced that his fear of losing it could have pushed him into being stupid. I hope Ellis will realize that though I think he should make Dav squirm and beg for forgiveness. I also don't get how Dav, no matter how angry, could be ready to attack his own mate. Doesn't the Cathera bond with a mate prevent the person from hurting their mate. Wouldn't it be impossible to cause them pain, let alone attack them and cause them bodily harm?

I think that Ellis isn't fully human. I also think that he may be holding their bond closed b/c I think Dav would be opening it again if he could being so desperate to talk to him. I think Dav would have hunted him down by now or maybe be watching. I know that Dr. Panaar didn't say a bond couldn't be severed, but I think he doesn't want to make assertions about the snakes who he doesn't know all that much about. I pray that Ellis doesn't go off without anyone knowing...of course he will I am sure...and have his brother put him in danger. I don't trust the bastard.

I'm pretty mad at Dav right now :) hope you can make him grovel enough and prove he's worth Ellis' love again. I'm not sure how I can feel about him after he did that. And then when he tried to go to Ellis like it was all forgotten. That was crazy. The strange thing is that he said 'you're in pain' which how would he have picked that up if his side of the bond were shut down. It seemed like it was more than a physical cue that made him say it. Well, you really kicked ass in this chapter and I hope you can keep raising the bar!! Post soon please! I can't wait for more!

OMG

I feel so bad for Ellis -- I can't stand it! I hope you are able to post soon and we can have a happy ending. Not sure if that is possible though with how hurt Ellis is. I feel like I know your characters and can feel their pain! Please hurry with the next chapter - fingers crossed that things are gonna be ok for Ellis & Dav.

Love this story :) but I'm still pissed that out of everyone only Dr Pannar at least gave Ellis the benefit of the doubt. I mean yes they were trying to protect the other cathera but still...

Nice

Very exciting. I can't wait to see what brings Dav and Ellis back together but I'm thinking something like Isiah's "friend" is really his mate and that's his surprise for Ellis. Being that they are mates is why Isiah is doing all those horrible things and he probably thinks its for the best because he's been manipulated. When they find out that Ellis is Dav's mate they kidnap him or some sort and then Dav has to come rescue him this ensuing that their bond isn't broken and a happily ever after. But that's just my guess.

Great job can't wait for the next chapter

xoxo
