"Game, set, match," Marcus adds. "Now I see why you were smiling when you sat down. You'd just turned the tables."
"He didn't turn the tables, he flipped them!"
"Aren't you heading to Denver?" Garrett asks. He must've been the only one who actually paid attention to what I said earlier.
"I fly out after my date with Loren."
"That's cutting it close..."
I open the door to my SUV then turn and face my friends. We're in a cutthroat business. Football comes first in one way or another. We often lose perspective; we forget that other things exist.
"You make time where time is needed."
I grin triumphantly. I have a date with Loren.
Anon 8 months ago,
What do you want to get picked up, exactly? They never agreed on a relationship or on the fact that they're "taking it slow." It's just one chapter and you are failing badly at reading here.
Loren literally is not interested at this point in the series, and so far it's Jay being all smitten and forward on him. I agree that Jay is going with it way too strongly to my liking, but this chapter is just Jay realizing his first approach isn't working well so he decides to flip it to see how Loren reacts, and it seems that Loren is getting lured by that sudden change of plans.
This feels like one of those anons that go "omg where sex" because the first two pages are focused on introducing characters and nothing else. Fyi it's pathetic to only want to read sex and HEA without bothering to understand why the characters do what they do, and so, Anon, congratulations on being an idiot this early in the series.
@Anonymous. I don’t think it’s unrealistic because Loren doesn’t want to want Jay. He can tell that if he spends time with him, he’s at risk of a life he doesn’t want. So, he stayed away from him like a sober person avoids bars. Just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and couldn’t help but being drawn back to Jay.
Damn, taking it slow is one thing but totally ghosting a guy you’re interested in for like 7 months seems really stupid. Especially a high-demand professional jock like Jay. I found that huge gap of nothingness to be disappointing and unrealistic. I hope they stop playing games like this and things pick up a bit.
I've been looking forward to this and am looking forward to your next installments. It's very well written, reads smoothly, realistic and genuine dialog. I'm invested. Good job!
First time reader of your works…..sorry I waited. BTW I personally like the slow burn
