I was going to gripe along the lines of some of the other gripes, but then realized: this was only posted yesterday. If this was only part 1, and the category is foreshadowing ...

Completely off topic: "The dog quickly realized I was a soft touch as I tossed her a piece [of food] whenever she gave me that look. You know the one I'm talking about." Dogs have a face muscle specifically to make that look with. It's called the levator anguli oculi medialis. Wolves don't have it. It's believed that dogs evolved it specifically to charm us soft-touch humans.

Wasn't sure about the "Loving Wife" category: before I started reading, but it was well worth the time. It was a little heavy on the BBQ information, but it just made me hungry, lol. Thanks.

Damn good story. Must be from Alabama if you know Conecuh Sausages.

That was a fine beginning now what about the middle and the end.

Nice story. He really is living a wonderful life.

Well done. It is a rare story that hogs the limelight with so much feed back so quickly.

Okay story but atad boring, longwinded and more like a cooking show, but at least no cucking, cheats etc

Masterful. An easy 5. And like tizwicky, I would love to see the story continue. Despite the sweet ending of this.

Has to be a great story if I'm the 111th commenter. Excellent, as always.

That was great.

Enlightening, fun and a very well crafted plot.

Top ratings from me.

Looked up the baked bean recipe. I will definitely be trying it soon! Good story! Really liked it.

Nice Story … but … LW?

Just wondering how this got into LW! Sweetie seems to have been (is) a scoundrel, but I see no evidence of ‘adventurous-ness!’ Stupid, despite MBA, for not recognizing that an academic degree cannot substitute for a real feel for your business!

5*

Nice story. 5 stars for sure.

More Martha Stewart than literotica.

When a good author writes what they know, it just works. Doesn't matter if it is barbecuing, fly fishing, knitting, or jet engine design. When the author knows their stuff well, and can really write, it is interesting regardless of what is used to drive the plot.

Wrong category? I don't care. This was about community and getting over divorce.

Well done! 5/5

Quite a mess with no direction, looks like some sort of exercise in writing. As others pointed out, this does not belong here in LW.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

Another cookbook masquerading as a story. No sex and just a hint of romance.

Decent

Decent story, but when he got divorced ,why did he not stay in business under another name?.

nixroxnixroxalmost 3 years ago

4 stars - the jumping around made it a bit difficult to follow, other than that it was a good story and I liked all the stuff about BBQs.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 3 years ago

A prequel and a sequel would be cool. Nice story

Good food, Good friends. Booze. Puppies. A new love interest? That is really all you need....Bravo

Yeah, about that BBQ. There’s two reasons for putting sauce on BBQ before it’s served. To give the meat some taste, or to cover up the taste of the meat. Good BBQ does Not NEED sauce. I won’t eat sliced brisket that already has sauce on it. But don’t get me started about BBQ. ;-) . Good story, Bebop.

Interesting story. Just actually a piece out of someone’s life, but well told. I gave it 5 stars.

AnonymousAnonymousover 2 years ago

Very nice story. I got a laugh out of his neighbor’s telling him she was glad he and her daughter didn’t get together because she didn’t want idiots for grandkids. It’s a perk of getting old, you can speak your damn mind. One thing puzzled me, if he didn’t want to get to know his neighbors, why the heck did he give them his cell number?! Great story, Bebop, thanks much.

Happy story, thanks for writing, and thanks for the baked beans referral. I looked at the recipe and am planning to try it next summer. Tanglosax

Great cooking show! Oops, I meant story! Really was a good story, anything with Nora and QML! are guaranteed very good and of course Bebop also...........keep writing.

5 star story, a good slice of life showing the healing after divorce, of making a new life. If I had any complaint it would be the story tags, while hilarious don't really make finding this story through tags easy. If I hadn't found it through someone's favorites I might never have.

Does anyone have Jack and Jill stories for D2Donut2? Anything beyond seems to confuse him. A very good tale, well worth a second pass.

The soothing story of a wounded soul's gradual awakening and rengagement with life. Turns out those Damn Yankees look after the strays in their midst. Left me hungry for more. Very well done.

Enjoyed the story … and the BBQ lesson. Great work!

StubbyoneStubbyoneabout 1 year ago

Hmmm. Good writing, but definitely not a LW tale. A cooking show maybe.

We all spent more time in the care & feeding of a smoker than anything else. A 3-for good writing. No plot, no sex. Not even a hint.

Some stories are a quick snack out of the fridge. Others are a tasty rack of ribs, slow-cooked for most of the day over a lovingly-tended fire of mesquite logs. This story obviously belongs to that second, savory group. Thank you for writing it, and darn you for making my morning muesli taste like oat hulls and wheat chaff. I spent the rest of the day drooling over memories of briskets past. 5*

Reminded me of the romances in the Redbook magazine that my mother read in the 1950's. Light and easy and left you feeling good.

A fine tale nicely paced. Although heavy on BBQ, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Five stars from me.

This is one of the best pieces of writing I’ve ever read. You spend your life heading somewhere, and when you pause, you realize you’ve already been there for a while.

Well done!!
