Still. I'd made life difficult for those who'd felt my life was theirs to manipulate, and all through the graces of my wife, whose reputation was both ruined and also rehabilitated, after a made-for-TV movie made her out to a put-upon officer, who did what she was ordered to do but hated every second of what it made her become. I dunno, maybe it was the truth. Hard to really know, at this point.

For me, I just sat quietly, no one figured out who I was and Susan and I married the next year, and lived together as harmoniously as you can live with a part Irish redhead (even if it is from a bottle) who runs her own bar.

I still can't decide if I am glad I met Clarissa McDonald, or not.

Very good story that could have been a great story. If it was tightened up to 5 or 6 pages, if the main character hadn’t rambled on. And on. Repeating himself constantly, explaining things that didn’t need en explanation. I will say that the writing was exceptional. If there was a typo, a word missing or any other errors I didn’t see it. Thanks, jezzaz, for such a good story, I know you put a lot of effort into it.

Good story but I can't give this five stars due to the ending. No way he gets away with the leak and walks free and clear. They would suspect him and then rendition his ass. The prospect of more torture would unravel his psyche. Agree wholeheartedly with the Anonymous commenter who started a post with "There is no way...". Those commenters who wished for some happy ending with them reconciling are being silly. Seriously? The torture alone woukd have broke his mind and spirit. He would never remotely be the same again. And she was (in part) directly responsible for his capture and was part of the system that led to him rotting for two years. Would have been 5 stars except for the sophomoric ending with the leak. Meh. 4 stars.

Exceptional story, jezzaz, thanks a lot for sharing. I was a little put off by the excessive verbiage throughout the story, It did drag it down quite a bit in some places. Otherwise I thought it was a great story. 5 stars.

5 Stars on this one . I have no Love for the Saudi Arabia guys I have met . My mother told stories of them getting girls Pregnant . The guys would then take the kids back to their country and raise them . Trust Me when I say they do not love us . They called my Mom a foolish old lady . My older brother and Dad were their that day . Dad hit one guy and he cried like a baby , My brother just pushed one to the ground . Security had seen the whole thing . Not like they went to jail or anything . I ran into some in Vegas .

Great story.

As an American I very much hate Saudi Arabia and their involvement with 9/11 . I would like us to beat the shit out of the royal family and simply steal their country.

Very good story!! MC is just very much like most of us “commoners” innocent or maybe just plain dumb about most of the political undercurrent involved in world affairs!!! He goes to work, does his job and believes he has a honest and loving wife to come home to!! In most cases he doesn’t know (or even want to know) that a lot, if not most, of the news media’s reporting is fake or non news!!! In fact if the actual happenings were truly reported there is a distinct possibility that the general populace would be picking up their pitchforks and protesting in the streets!!!

I understand that the story HAD to end the way it did, but part of me still wishes for a 'happier' ending, like them being together, or dying together. He was very much a 'Hobbit'; trusting and honest and caring, but when it came down to it there was a diamond-hard core of self-sacrifice and survival that exceeded hers. Well done.

Great story. I wish there were many more stories like this here. It had everything love, intrigue, betrayal, redemption, acceptance. For me it was a pleasure to read it. I personally consider Richard naive, trustworthy, and in love for the first time in his life. He was truly a happy married man. She was almost everything he wanted and needed in a wife as far as he was concerned. He may have been unobservant, but he wasn't a fool. He just trusted her, and she was a trained, experienced, and intelligent operative versed in lying, double crossing, and using and manipulating people in the name of the greater good. In her own way, she loved him too and needed him as much as he needed her. At the end, her job and the lies derailed their relationship and exposed the deceit, and lies it was built upon. It was meant to happen in one way or another eventually. Definitely a 10-stars story. Thanks for the story.
