So quiet . . . calm . . . comforting.

Civilization seemed so far away, not merely miles but mental distance as well. Immersion in the wilderness had aligned their manner of thought akin to the aboriginals who dwelled in this ancient landscape before them.

Toward the middle of the lake they quit paddling and drifted slower . . . slower . . . slower until they stopped dead in the water in the dead of night. Reflected in the glassy surface, stars sparkled with the same fire as the heavens above as if they were floating on the boundary 'twixt here and hereafter, peering deep into the abyss of a parallel universe.

So peaceful . . . serene . . . timeless.

Someday . . . someday . . .
