Savior Ch. 02

I nodded, unable to stop my tears this time. My lips pinched tight, I opened the door to my car, flopped inside, and slammed the door. It took me a moment to gather myself enough to drive, but Officer Choral watched me until I turned the key. Because the car was already warmed up, it wheezed to life with relative ease and only a few pumps of the gas pedal. I put the car into reverse with a grind and a bang before I backed out of the parking spot.

I didn't return his small wave as I spluttered out of the station's parking lot.
