For the moment, I think we should abandon our plans to control the Deep Ones and seek some other way to achieve our ambitions. I am returning to you the Priscus Essays. You will see that the book has been rebound thanks to an unexpected donor of the necessary material.

Using both hands, the old man lifted the book from the parcel and smoothed the brand-new binding. With a quivering forefinger, he outlined the profusion of multi-coloured arabesques and curlicues decorating the leather. Chen Liang smiled.

7. Mill Grange: December 1967

Mill Grange was empty once more, grim and forbidding. Nothing moved in its rooms and corridors other than the long-legged spiders which constantly wove and rewove their ragged snares, and the rats whose scurrying and squabbling were the only noises to break the silence.

In the depths far beneath the house, something grunted with content and gnawed on the carcass of what had once been a man.

Have to admit, an amazing story!!

I also have to admit I read anything and everything, but "Lovecraft" has until now been something I am unfamiliar with!!

Would have made a great "Tales of the Unexpected" type programme.

Lol, was actually in a "nostalgic" mood this evening, watching Roy Orbison programmes on BBC2 and remembered you wrote some great romance stories using older song titles as the story titles and noticed this one.

Anyway, not what I was expecting to read this evening, but thoroughly enjoyable read.

Well that was different, I've never read Lovecraft but it kept me going to the end. I always said you shouldn't trust priests! Quite enjoyed the story, Poor McAllister, but at least he 'contributed' something of himself. I've given you a well deserved 5 stars.

That was a great tale. A nice, well described build up followed by the horror. I enjoyed the description of the Shoals and the strange priest. As a Lovecraft fan of course we all knew right at the start that it wasn't going to end happily for McAllister. You've set the bar high again; another 5* tale, thanks.

That was creepy. I was thinking that they would find Mccalister had replaced Ronin and was now the one doing the rituals in his stead. But we know what happened to him. Nice of him to be a donor. I did suspect the book would get rebound when it was mentioned what it was rumored to have been originally bound in that material. I just wasn't sure if it would end up being one of the detectives who was investigating who would provide it. Sorry it took me a while to read this. I didn't want to read it at night because your writing is so good in this genre that I thought it would give me nightmares. Having some small exposure to the Lovecraft pantheon, I knew this would be a very creepy story. You did not disappoint.

Thank you for sharing this with us.
