They had almost reached the entrance when they ran into Mother, who had been out for her evening run. She was dressed in slim fitting white capris and a light blue shirt and her hair in a casual ponytail. She was sweating intensely and Erika could see droplets of sweat on her forehead and on her neck.
"Had a good run, Mother?"
"Oh the usual." Mother said. "Oh what's this?" She crooned to Faruth, who placed the dead bird at her feet in an almost reverent gesture. "For me? What a wonderful catch." She said, rubbing Faruth behind the ears. "Could you prepare this for us, Erika? I'm going to take a shower."
Though her body was screaming for rest, she nodded. "Sure."
"Thank you dear." Mother said as she placed a kiss on Erika's cheek before walking inside, Faruth in tow. Erika sighed and picked up the bird and followed them.
