Thanks for your questions, LargoKitt and Avery!

To answer the easier one first: I already have this whole story written, and I'm posting the finished chapters one week at a time. So, there are little things mentioned in this chapter that will become more important later on! I don't always have my stories finished before posting them, though. Sometimes for very long works, I only have about half the chapters written and the other half planned when I start posting. This story is about 26,000 words, or novella length, so it didn't take as long to write.

LargoKitt, I'm very interested in the relationship between humans and nature that you're talking about here! I was thinking especially about how big seabird colonies find a balance between individual competition for status, food, mates, etc., and mutually-supportive social behaviours that help the entire species survive, like penguins huddling together around all of their chicks. We humans living in high-tech capitalist nations have lost touch with that balance by overvaluing the success of a few individuals and endangering our survival as a species. So, I tried to make this future utopia a sustainable one, where humans are more integrated with nature. They've found the balance between satisfying individual needs and promoting collective social behaviour. There will definitely be more about how the "city" works with nature in later chapters!

Cool world, excited to read more! One question, do you already have the whole story planned or are you writing as you go?

Knowledge of Good and Evil

Your bird flock/fish school example raises the fascinating question: How did we humans come to believe that being separate from and dominating nature was essential for our survival? of course natural communities have 'pecking orders' and success as a result of strength or prowess in getting food, avoiding predators, and finding mates. And nature has a 'command' that a community should work to maximize itself; paired with a 'rule' that if it exceeds its resources other organisms will 'level it out'. We humans try to step outside that; adapt the world to us rather than adapting to the world over time.
