"That's kind of what I was thinking."

Sam was far more creative than I could ever be. I'm really only creative in working with ideas. It was an amazing and precious thing to have this woman love me so much. I don't mean I'm stupid or anything like that—though sometimes I do things that make me wonder! But Sam was smart about ideas, too, and then besides singing and playing instruments, she could paint and sculpt and compose. Ellen's talents lay in different directions, for the most part, but she was generally as far beyond Sam as Sam was beyond me. Though Sam had said Ellen was musical, too. I was overjoyed to think that both of them loved and wanted me.

In the middle of all this, I called Ellen and we talked a little. She had been finding that the urban streets and sidewalks weren't really going to work for her for running, even though she saw others running on them daily. She'd discovered that even though she technically wasn't a student until the next week, her student ID gave her access to the gym, which was across campus but still really very close. After running there for a couple of days, she'd fallen into running with a woman she met there, and talking to her. They had a lot to talk about. Ellen had explained a little about high school, but she found that this woman didn't require too much explanation. Lots of people transferred in as juniors from community colleges, and the idea of a high school intense enough to provide that much credit wasn't too much of a stretch, it seemed. Just talking with Ellen for a bit was a pleasure, and Sam had asked me to go to speaker so she could hear both sides.

By dinnertime, I was about as prepared for most of my courses as I could be before they started. I thought Sam was in about the same position with hers. We discussed some things from our studies over dinner. I knew Uncle John was at home with everything I said, and a lot of what Sam said as well. Aunt Sally kept to herself a bit more, but when she made a comment or asked a question, it was always intelligent and germane.

After dinner, we played Scrabble. We again set a time limit, but this time it wasn't needed. Uncle John won, but we really were all in a bunch most of the time. The final score was kind of lopsided, but only because of all the extra points Uncle John earned as a result of going out.

Bedtime was early, for Sam and me. I was trying to make sure we both came to Friday well rested, and I wanted Sam to be used to the earlier hour. I knew we needed to have started a lot sooner for that, but this was about all I could do. We made love fairly quickly, but it was very satisfying for me and I thought for Sam as well. She clung hard to me afterward. We both were looking forward to parting with sadness and concern.

Small thought

I am coming to believe that Saul/Paul was a ringer / mole, sent to bring the recaltriant Chrestians to heel. I have never been able to reconcile the words of Jesus with the 'writings' of Paul. If you stand back 1000 paces you'll see it's all about conformity. A lot of the early churches had women bishop's and equal rights for women: far too radical an idea for it not to be seriously stamped on; and Paul seriously stamped on it.
