"Free tickets to next run," Davidson whispered.
The woman was looking at the chart. At the map. She pointed at the map. "Explain!"
The cheerful computer voice spoke: "This is the map of the World of Alkenscar -- sunken after the polar ice caps melted and the world became torn between warring tribes of fierce and sensual shark women. If the right male and right female combine their talents and conquer the world, then they will win...the Prize."
The woman listened, her eyes growing more and more intent. She closed her little notebook. In halting Interlac, she said: "If me...take land, me win Prize?"
"That is correct," the cheerful computer said.
The woman nodded.
Nodded again.
"If that is what it takes, oracle, that is what I will do," she whispered. "This I swear, by the blood of my ancestors, by the hate of my heart. I will do whatever it takes, I will destroy anyone I have to, I will conquer and spill the blood you want, until you give me what I want. If it's an Empire you want, then it is an EMPIRE you will HAVE!"
She turned and stalked from the chambers.
"Have fun!" the computer said, stupidly.
Gyre sagged backwards, sat down in the chair.
"Who was that?" Davidson whispered. "...holy shit, this was logged forty local years ago!?"
Gyre hadn't needed to be told that. He rubbed his temple.
"That," he said. "Was the Empress of the Stars."
