Superb...

Heart touching

I'm sure a lot of us can look back and see how we hurt someone for little to no reason. And feel that regret Jessie feels. That was a great twist at the end and a 5 star story.

Very good story. I would like to think he did ring her and they married and lived very happily ever after.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 years ago

Excellent!! The author gave us all a gift by letting us write the ending!!

Who you are, where you are, gives the ending. And, that can change as you change.

I'll buy that she reformed herself, but I see absolutely no reason why he would think of getting together with her.

Jesus, bitches be crazy(fact) but they also be mean, evil, vindictive, treacherous, faithless, unpredictable but always selfishly out for themselves, absolutely certain that they are right and know whats right for them and never guilty, forgiving, sorry(really) or trustworthy.

what do you mean "have i been hurt? duh, just listed their basic personality strengths(dna traits), sweetness, looks, good smelling and sexy are just traits used as needed before they use their strengths to destroy and ruin anyone not l,iving up to their ideals and desires. rk

Decent story, let down by the ending.Did he call?.

esprit de l'escalier- (spirit of the staircase) a point in time you wish you could relive/ redo. what you'd say or not say, do or refrain from doing. Some folks spend their whole lives thinking what if? or if only? Not many actually get to resolve old issues. I'm approaching my 50th HS reunion. Few of my classmates will attend, so any chance to 'fix things' are slight, at best. Maybe Jessie gets a 2nd chance at life; she did get the moment to atone. That's something. 5 stars

Anon56... I can't believe I'm the first to comment!

The best story, I've read in LT. It could become a movie.

The ending is obvious. Kincade made his life as a balanced, sensitive man with integrity. He will call her.

as a wheel chair bound old man, I really apreciate the DQ Steel's great work. I am so sorry that he has moved to better things, as he is one of the best writers. He has given me hours of good reading

Thank you, DQS. I liked your reference to Robert Kincaid, played by Clint Eastwood in 'The Bridges Of Madison County'. In that movie Kincaid was a freelance photographer/journalist working for National Geographic. 5 stars.

Bautiful. 5 stars

A brilliant story. This is the kind of story that makes you pause and take stock of your life. Worth thought and consideration. Thanks for this treasure.

P.S. would have loved a tiny little P.S. on the decision Kinkade made. :😉

"Mrs. Bishop, I need to talk to Kenny. I did not mean to hurt him like that."

.

"Beg to differ. Seems like you meant to hurt him *exactly* like that. You're the one who said all of those awful things *specifically* to hurt him."

.

"He insisted until the day he died that it was Kenny's fault for being so stupid and that any man would have stayed and fought for me if he'd had that big of a crush on me."

.

"Why would he fight for you? Seems you made it perfectly clear what you thought of him. Not as if he'd have been fighting just Johnny, he'd have also been fighting you. Fighting you for you? How stupid would that be?"

Change is possible. If we are what we once were we've failed. Learn from your mistakes and grow. Beautiful story.

I'm quite curious how I missed this one but apparently I did. I don't know if DQS still reads the comments or not but this one is excellent too. I used to spend time in East Palatka and he knows the people well. 5* from me.

More than a series of coincidences or accidents.

Nice way to find closure and consequences, as well as hope. (Karma?)

Lovely story. Not perfect as some others rudely point out but Lovely just the same.

Love your work. R

Great story! Has great intrigue, great foreshadowing, and desperately needs a 2nd, 3rd, chapter!! Thanks!

fredbrownfredbrown6 months ago

Oh damn-it, this 5-star story leaves me wondering - but - pretty darn sure the author wants me/you/us to expect little Kenny Bishop to stand up and do the manly thing!

The best you have ever shared,,.. so much depth of character and emotions that it soared without wings

TwmatthewsTwmatthews4 months ago

There are few writers on this site who pack so much emotion into their characters that you can feel their joy as well as their sadness. Mr Steele is one writer in whom I need to have a tissue handy because of the way his stories affect me. Well done. *****

AnonymousAnonymousabout 1 month ago

Yeah. Good guy ... and girl ... finally win. Deep emotions ... and some tears.

Well, the Lord works in ways we cannot comprehend in the short term.

Let's see, Jessie, head cheerleader, popular, feels most are below her station, great boobs, fabulous legs, pretty face, proud, pride and vain, yes, vanity.

Let the years roll by, her co-conspirator and husband is drunk, then a car accident, leaving Jessie paralysed, losing her ability live an exiting life and be free, then being abused in and mistreated in three subsequent failed marriages, and... forced to, or trying to, atone for her vanity by doing charity work at church for the poor beneath her station?

Maybe, just maybe, the Lord drives that Karma train?
