Burnt flesh shredded before the blast. The bear rolled, gathered itself and sprung.

The smoldering mass slammed into her. Her over-under was torn from her hands. Val's head bounced upon pavement. A piano weight crushed her breast.

The tension within her opened up. Fire extinguished in the deluge. Steam boiled. Charcoal drown. Soot washed away in the flood.
