On the Divorce of the New Christ
1.
Sitting back in my newfound
wisdom of age
I find the temptation to bare my chest
constrict my torso
with arms outstretched
and scream
"It is finished."
2.
I rattle dice and bet drachma
for my own robe
Among the soldiers
I am naked and bleeding
"I am cold."
3.
Darkness and thunder rise
children run and panic
Sadness slithers around
my feet
"Father, why did you die?"
4.
Blind screams echo back
echo back to me
echo back
"I have learned fear."
5.
Two thousand years
and I don’t remember any of it.
I had not been born
and I have not yet died
"Did I ever smile?"
6.
Second chances
like a second coming
twicely disappointed
and my world dies
as I watch
"Do you hear the silence?"
7.
"It is finished."

Just joining in on the chorus to say that this is an excellent poece of poetry. Strong, complete, instant and perfectly paced.
what a great poem! I loved the "chapter" structure, which evokes a scriptural style.
