There it is that will open many doors,
Shiny and winking in the light,
Seeming to silently beckon me to grasp it.
Curious questions crowd in
As I ponder its feminine-type curves.
Looking to the distance, the massive opening
Stifles a giant yawn with its dark cover.
Fear begins to build in leaps and bounds,
Making rational thought almost impossible.
Lifting its weighty mass with both hands,
I try to put it in the opening
To gain the passage I believe due me.
The sound is eerily hollow as I press on
Toward my goal.
Suddenly, the opening flies open to expose
The unexpected contents,
Leaving the instrument forgotten.
All that is visible for as far as the mind’s eye
Can see is blackness, desolation, dread,
And overall unhappiness with no end in sight.
Tired and alone, disappointment abounds.
