The Wood Nymph
By Jack Gates.
I looked up and saw her standing alone in a wooded glade,
she was the most beautiful woman, God ever made.
Completely naked, like the day that she was born,
with long golden, shiny hair that had never been shorn.
She turned as if startled, as I clumsily trampled a twig,
being thankful that she hadn't discovered the leaves of a fig.
She looked so agitated, like a gazelle, poised ready for flight,
to disappear into the trees, into the blackness of the night.
I crouched anxiously by the side of a tree, to get her to relax,
studying her feline beauty, just like a statue of golden wax.
Her face glowed with a smile, turning dusk into bright dawn,
she was exquisitively graceful, with the agility of a fawn.
She hesitated skittishly, when I offered her my hand,
her eyes focussed on my ring, questioning the golden band.
I was about to explain when she up and vanished out of sight,
my beautiful Wood Nymph...........Gone into the dark, dark night.
