Just Sufficiently Misleading to make folks read it again and then again to scoop up the misapprehensions.
Thanks

Using our experience from LW we can easily run off into the wrong world.
A beautiful story from beginning to end underlying the basic conflicts of any action!
This story was a bit different and had you going in a different direction till it came together , good read . we need more like this in LW ,
A nice twist to this very well written and nicely edited story. A story that has the reader going in one direction, until the author cleverly turns the tables on them.
Thanks for the good read.
So much emotion with so few words. That was a great story. From questioning to anger to sad to hope. And in only a fraction of a page. Great job. Thank you for that. Jim
W,
Gripping tale of melancholy past, present happiness and .... future hope.
Intensely written picture of life, love and ..... not wasted on this old romantic but .... probably on a few anonymous dolts.
Thanks for sharing on Lit. Great writing wonderful reading!

Story I have read on this site in a long time. "Thank You So Much"
This just reminded me that I read too many loving wives stories.....BTW, I loved it!!!!!!
I read it again now and it surprised me again - I forgot! What surprised me this time was that my own memory didn't at least clue me in! Brilliant bittersweet story!
Loved it Woodmanone. On the assumption that more is better, I think the story was too short, though. I would have loved to know more about Ally, Brad and Molly as fully developed characters in the story. BTW: You might enjoy "In The Dead Of Night" -- It has its flaws and I'd appreciate your thoughts.
They only allow 5 stars. Sometimes, that doesn't feel like enough. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful setup! I was expecting the worst and wondering how you could come up with a happy ending when you sprang the twist of Ally being the daughter who comforted him after the death of his wife. Now this was beautifully done!
nice to read a good story here, that not about wimps and sluts
They got in the way of my reading -
I never quite got comfortable with the story line as I ASSumed where it seemed to be going. Then it turned and "there you go" we where it should have been all along I loved it -
Thanks -
you wrote a compelling good story without jd, and a great twist. Superb
Lol It was really good, to turn my mind on its head with that twist. Quite genius really.
that I couldn't find strong enough compliments to express my appreciation of.
I don't comment on a lot of stories, but I'd be a complete ass not to tell you how good this story is. Had to read it twice in a row. Superb, really.
Thank you so much.
This is one of the best short stories I've ever read. Thanks.
I very much enjoyed this story and voted 5*. I did notice one small flaw, however. The father says "At 45, I'm 20 years older than Alyssa." That would make Alyssa 25yo. But in another line it says "somehow it was charming instead of irritating for this 20 year old woman to giggle." This didn't detract from the story in any way and it was a great tale overall. Thank you for the submission.

I hope to find others of this type and quality. Keep up the good work. 5 stars. Could use a sequel. Thanks again.
As one who has given 2 daughters away and will probably give away a grand-daughter, the story brought back memories.
Who knows, maybe the Englishman is right; Life goes on.
Why? Excellant short story. Very well written, only a voyeur would want to know more.

That was the snazziest turn around I ever remember. I was expecting to get mad at someone then you pulled that on me. while I usually prefer long stories this short story got my blood running.

Boy, was I 'Got'. I love stories with a twist and this had a fantastic twist. I thought it was another cheating wife. But as I read, it turned into a real 'feel good' story. What an imagination you must have. Thank you for a real 'surprising' story.
I really liked the story with the plot twist. But just after saying that Ally was 20, he said that at 45 he was 20 years older than her. It must be this new math! :-)
The twist Woody used in this short yarn, is one of my favorite scenarios. But I know it is extremely difficult to write successfully. It's far too easy to give the game away too soon (before the reader has become... emotional enough).
I know because I've made several attempts at using this same misdirection myself. Unfortunately none of which passed muster.
Nice one Woody!
After the buildup, this one line might just be the single most emotional line I have ever read.
Woodmanone, thank you for this beautiful story.
And maybe, just MAYBE, the Englishman is right and Life does go on
Photomeister, what can you expect from this "common core" bullshit.
Anyways, very well done Woodman.
You managed a very powerful, emotional piece in less than a page.
thank you weedmanone for the smiles.
I don't understand the confusion about his age. His daughter, now 20, was born when he was 25, making his age 45. Nothing common core or unusual at all.
You got me with this one. Never in a million years I would have guessed the twist spun around on this one. Excellent!!! 5*****
6*, that is one of the best - gotchas I've read here. Never saw that twist coming - well written - salute!
This the third time I have read this and I was sure I had previously lett a comment. For a real short story this one is just plain exceptional, very enjoyable and entertaining. Yes in this case The Englishman is right.
As a side note, it has been way too long since this fine author has published a story on Lit.
What a great feel-good tale. Once you figure it out it becomes a joy to read.
I dont know how i missed this little gem. Great story full of love and mystery. Well done sir.
Absolutely the best story on this site. Extremely emotional, amazingly clever and I can't afford the tissues being a 74 year old pensioner. Thank you so much for your stories they are so good. Mel B known as Hornydevil47.
This is one of the very best short stories I have ever read….anywhere. And I read a lot.
