Angel
(A Free-Verse Poem)
I’ve been waiting in the shadows all of my life, waiting for a tomorrow that may never come. Placing hope in a future that may not exist, I slowly drift through life. Into a corner I pile my problems...left for another time. At the end of the day, the dreams come...like reflections in my mind, they feel so real...reaching out I try to hold onto the angel as she sinks back into the darkness. As light floods my eyes, the weight of my life finds its home in my chest. The thought of how pointless my life is, weighs heavy on my heart. Will I ever awaken from this horrible nightmare? I see the darkness that surrounds me, and I wonder when it will vanish. Suddenly out of the deep darkness I see a hand...extended...waiting for someone to reach in and take it. As I grasp the hand, I pull you out of the looming darkness and see that you are no ordinary girl...you are the angel from my dreams. As I pull you towards me...the darkness vanishes. When I look into your eyes, I feel like someone has lit my heart on fire. I feel that anything is possible...all we have to do is reach in and take it. No longer will I hide in the shadows...no longer will I wonder...finally I have found my purpose in life...
