There is byplay between the man as hero and you with your view of your weaknesses that gives the poem that extra dimension to bring it alive.
Personally (and I suspect it is true for others) I find it hard to connect with a poem that is single tone e.g. it is solely about how much the writer loves or hates someone or himself/herself – however heartfelt and sincere the poem may be. I find that such a poem lacks perspective or context.
This poem does have context and perspective and is a much better read for me.
And love to see you more positive.
