DIVORCE

I held her and hugged her
To kiss her good-bye
Then turned away quickly
Before I could cry

Hurt and so crushed
By what I'd been told
Our love once so strong
Now had grown cold

There was now another
To brighten her life
I could no longer
Call her my wife

All the years together
And what we had shared
How could it be
She no longer cared

How did it happen
When did it start
What event
Had cost me her heart

Was it my actions
Or something undone
Had I become boring
No longer fun

The words that she told me
I couldn't forget
Said it was not her intentions
The day they had met

It happened, love blossomed
Beyond her control
The divorce she now wanted
Had not been her goal

She was surprised I'd not felt it
Our drifting apart
She knew it she felt it
Right from the start

I was hurt but I loved her
I bent to her will
Now on with my life
With a void there to fill

She's now out of my life
And happy they say
But she still haunts me
'Bout every day

Time it goes on
And with that I'll heal
Then this pain in my heart
I'll no longer feel
