Leaves quiver inside spring's silent breezes
Sunlight glistens off the green of their backs
The sparrows song calls me into peace
While lying dreamily by the side of a brook
Cool waters ripple with hope's memories

What happened to all my yesterdays
Why do we keep living their lonely ways
When life should move along as it feels
Instead of lying dazed inside confusion
While love sinks to the bottom of the ocean
As time floats aimlessly like lonely driftwood
Floating by upon life's sanctimonious waters

Oh I'm just a lonely piece of driftwood
Driftwood driftin' through life's twists and turns
A simple existence carved out of cool waters
Driftwood driftin' with no special place to go
Driftwood keep on driftin' over cool waters
Oh cool cool waters come wash over me

Oh lonely ones don't go getting yourselves lost in driftwood
Lonely driftwood that piles up inside wandering fields
Where contemplating souls hide and don't want to be found
While counting temptuous dreams on lingering fingers
No lonely ones don't go getting yourselves lost in driftwood
Put your guns down and let's swim in life's peaceful waters

One day I'll lodge ashore and build me a home
Made solely out of driftwood love and peace
Oh driftwood keep on driftin' through cool waters
Shelter everyone along your lonely driftin' way
As you make your way through life's cool waters

Some day hands will come together from the sky
That will help this lonely piece of driftwood
Lodge onto communal shores of everyday life
Where love extends beyond familial last names
While knowing with memory all blood runs red
Between earth's brothers and sisters the same
Come let's all get lost inside life's peaceful waters

But for now I'm just a lonely piece of driftwood

Oh life come pour over me with cool waters
Birth spring's song into my depraved soul
Oh how I enjoy when life's cool cool waters
Drown me in love's sweet familial memories
Oh cool cool waters come wash over me

And if most of my yesterdays are done and gone
Let the rest remain inside three sides of peace
As we search together for the fourth side
Completing life's quest for familial hope
Even strangers who drift through unsteady waters
Ask you to put your guns down ending all wars
That are disturbing life's steady peaceful waters

Yeah I'm just a lonely piece of driftwood
