coffee comes in the mail, whole bean
with free filters
because we drink so much
neatly packaged for strangers' lives
fair trade, they say
we're doing good while self-medicating
on three cups a day
headaches never come
if the shipment's late
we just go to the store
refilling prescriptions in the tea, coffee and cocoa aisle
it's safe there, nobody looks at you funny
if you're shaking with coffee in your hand
the sunglasses don't bother anyone
if it were a prescription bottle
people wouldn't smile and say "excuse me"
while reaching around you
