I like this! Well constructed with a good flow to it. The words are measured well. Unfortunately the story told is all too common.

Addiction to a person is a terrible thing. I think you've expressed it well with the image of the puppet. Left to its own devices, it falls down, it cannot sustain itself. Well written.
