I watched the news today
More threats and lies from those that play
Throwing bombs and vicious lies
Destroying more innocent lives:

<< Rewind

My father travelled the seven seas
He saw the world, himself to please
Living was hard but getting better
No more fear for the dreaded letter:

<< Rewind

Grandfather flew in an ancient bomber
A small carefree man, but war was stronger
He fought against the Nazi curse
Hoping that life would not get worse:

<< Rewind

My family fought in the fields of La Somme
Did they die knowing this was wrong?
Letters came compounding the grief
Shattered then, my people's beliefs:

<< Rewind

The cannons rang out in a lost border struggle
A different land maybe, but still in a muddle
No time for remorse as the enemy dies
The King needs this land, not my people's lives:

<< Rewind

Black chargers sweep across the mountains of Spain
Forced to retreat by those in their chains
Did ancestors laugh with the infidel gone?
Relish the peace, but not for long:

<< Rewind

>> Fast forward :

Now I sit and write for my rights
One lonely voice against rifle and knife
But turning I see my family tree
And this gives me strength, identity:

<< Rewind
