He lay on the bed
In a curtain-stained room
And we gathered around,
Shadows in gloom.

Sun through the window
Cold breeze through the door
And we whisper quietly,
Words fall on the floor.

Where did the hope go?
What happened to fight?
And why is this quiet man
A shallow sad sight?

I do not know God’s will,
But I know the ways of men.
And if he had a good soul,
Then why will his life have to end?

He is lost to his fighting
All anger and pain.
And we are left watching;
Tears in the rain.
