I remember so clearly the first time I saw your face as I held you my daughter, a new life in your hands, your eyes were a glow with wonder as you looked at the world for the first time. Our miracle of birth, how could something so precious and perfect come from our bodies? You understood only the warmth and comfort of your mommy's body next to yours.

I remember the first time you discovered life, you were so full of joy as you reached down into the big cardboard box that held those puppies, and your eyes explained the joy of life and of your place in it.

I remember the first time you skinned your knee, you had been running with your older sister and had tripped, and your eyes explained the fact that not all of life was free from pain, but you would endure it.

I remember the first time you came home from school as the group of children you had assumed were your friends had begun teasing you and hurt your feelings, your eyes explained that life was not always as it seemed, but for better or for worse you accepted it.

I remember the first time you were selected to be in a school play, your eyes explained that you understood the happiness of accomplishment, you to revel in it.

I remember the first time you came home, after being asked to a dance, your eyes explained that a whole new emotion was being added to your life and you relish it.

I remember the first time you realized that High School and College were over and that the world awaited you, your eyes explained the your pride of adulthood realized and the excitement of your life to come, you embraced it.

I remember the first time you told us about the man who had asked you to marry him, your eyes explained your elation at finding him and your fear of loosing yourself from your father, the acceptance and joy in his eyes allowed you delight in your moment.

I remember the first time I saw you in your wedding gown, your eyes explained your full transition into a woman, beautiful, and complete you had chosen your life's mate, you savored your choice.

I remember the first time you held your daughter a new life in your hands, your eyes were a glow at the wonder of the miracle of birth. How could something so precious and perfect come from your body? You finally understood the first times and how important they are, and always will be.
