Cornford

on the pornboard?

send them off the page, who knows what they come back with:

O why do you walk through the fields in gloves,

Missing so much and so much?

O fat white woman whom nobody loves,

Why do you walk through the fields in gloves,

When the grass is soft as the breast of doves

And shivering sweet to the touch?

O why do you walk through the fields in gloves,

Missing so much and so much?

Which seems to parody you as much as Cornford

you made me go looking things up

thankyou :)

this made me smile as i read - perhaps more for its adroit word-wittery 'I think perhaps he did not tell her his loves/Were not simply nylons and free-fingered gloves' as its candid imagery.

however, i am left wondering about the meaning of your last line... new clean bless?

kissing his glove - could we be talking clergy here, or would that involve kissing his ring? either way, it denotes rank/wealth/position = power. he's visiting his 'mistress' whore as an antidote but would far rather be anally compromised by a brute of a man. so he cannot even confess i private...

the good old, bad old days. :)

A witty re-working

Not sure the fifth and sixth lines quite work - but the thought behind the poem is amusing - good stuff. S.O.
