"it pains"

I can see use of

"it stains"

but at the end, it blows it out, you may want more of a resolution.

I like the stains

Pain doesn't always show but stains are clearly visible. Stains speaks to me more vividly and tell a different story than pains. Stains aren't always bad things while it's hard to interpret pain in a good way.

i can see

both as being able to articulate a certain type of finality,

stains gives a duality on "love" it can be interpreted as a permanent mark on the narrator that will always be present and can also allude to the other type of love stain.....

pains has multiple interpretations as well, so either will fit as an end cap for me.,
